Pixel Vision 8 v0.9.5 Is Live!
October 09, 2019
First off, I need to apologize for the lack of updates these past few months. There has been a lot going on getting this new release ready. Moving forward, I'm hoping to get back on a more regular release and update schedule. Also, I did a soft release of v0.9.4 without an announcement and took a few weeks to work out the major bugs I found, which is why I'm announcing the release of v0.9.5.

With that out of the way, there are some significant changes I'll be making to how I distribute Pixel Vision 8 moving forward. Some of you may have noticed that I redesigned the website. Pixel Vision 8 now comes in one flavor, a downloadable executable for Mac, Windows, and Linux. This app represents the virtual console and boots up to an insert disk prompt. From here, you have several options.

First off, you can drag and drop any .pv8 file you want onto the app's window to load it up. However, to get the full experience, you'll be able to download Pixel Vision OS and boot from there. You can install Pixel Vision OS onto the Workspace drive and eject the disk to have it boot on its own. All of the OS files live in a System folder. You have full access to the source code for every tool, and you can even create custom tools too.

In addition to the new release, there are a few new pages on the website. Before you begin, make sure to check out the Getting Started Guide and the new API Cheat Sheet. Finally, I've updated all of the Documentation, which is accessible to anyone that signs up for a free copy of PV8.

I've fixed over 200 bugs between v0.9.4 and v0.9.5, so instead of listing all the changes here, I invite you to go through the updated Free Tutorials and the all-new Demoscene Tutorial series.

These courses are designed to get you up and running with PV8 quickly by jumping right into the code, new color modes, and showing off the built-in tools. I'll be updating the Pro Tutorials for the next release and have a few new things coming out for Pro members as well so stay tuned!

I hope you enjoy the new release, and let me know what you think or would like to see next in the comments below.

Is it possible to have the pico8 limitations in PV8? Just thought to have a fantasy console within PV8 ;)
